Ilsa Spreiter

One of my deepest values is genuine connection, and one of my greatest gifts is my ability to relate. Therefore, I favor a dynamic, collaborative therapeutic exchange that de-emphasizes the hierarchies of “expert/patient” and allows for real human dialogue. I find this can be very powerful in breaking down the shame we all carry and the sense of isolation and loneliness that comes from this.

In my sessions, I strive to truly engage with my clients, sharing the best of myself, which includes not only the sum of my training and expertise, but also my heart, mind, spirit, soul, life  experience and continuing personal work. Over my almost 13 years in practice, I have seen that if we can creatively work together, find places of relating, laugh, play, follow our instincts and intuitions, hang out in the “mystery,” a “magical” transformation can occur.

In addition to working extensively with anxiety, depression and trauma, I also specialize in working with highly-sensitive people (HSPs)/Empaths (those who are extra sensitive to light, sound, etc., and/or other peoples’ “energy”). If you suspect this is you, and you’ve struggled to find peace, draw boundaries and take care of yourself because of it, I can help. I also specialize in working with those who have experienced narcissistic abuse/gaslighting, those on the spiritual path, artists, other healers, those in life transition, codependents and those who suffer from chronic pain/illness. I draw from Mindful Self-Compassion, existential, somatic/embodied, energy psychology and psychospiritual approaches, and  I offer psychedelic integration and dreamwork as well.

My approach is also informed by feminist and social justice perspectives. In addition to my Masters in Psychology, I also carry another Masters in Cultural Studies. Therefore, in sessions I regularly address the often-oppressive systems in our society with the goal of helping you find greater freedom and empowerment within them.

Throughout my time as a therapist, my clients have continually expressed gratitude around my “unique” approach, and they have even said they’ve found therapy “fun.” I truly believe we are all in this together, that our liberation is tied up in each other’s, so I look forward to meeting you and exploring our work!
