Alyssa Spungen (she/her)

James Hillman said, “Becoming more and more oneself- the actual experience of it is a shrinking, in that very often it’s dehydration, a loss of inflations, a loss of illusions.” It can be unnerving to shed versions of ourselves that no longer fit and I see my role as your therapist as witnessing and tending a space of attunement, presence and awe at your unfolding and (re)clamation.

I  draw inspiration from depth, somatic, trauma-informed, decolonial and mindfulness approaches as they involve recognizing the impact of systemic violence, cultivating soul growth, and repairing the body’s ability to deeply feel and heal. I believe that working with dreams, non-ordinary states of consciousness and the body greatly enhance the therapeutic process, and welcome and invite them in.  I look toward teachers like Oumou Sylla, Bayo Akomolafe, James Hillman, Naomi Sangreal, Donald Kalsched, Robert Moss, Jasmine Rose, my colleagues here at TCA, and others to guide me along this journey.

I am a second-year student at Lindsey Wilson College in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, a teacher of Shakti Yoga, and a Certified Dreamwork Professional from the Institute for Dream Studies. I am also trained to offer Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy.  My undergraduate degree is in Philosophy and Creative Writing. I am a member of the American Counseling Association and the International Association for the Study of Dreams (IASD).
