Chandel Beck
Sometimes, we just need a witness to our experience – a mirror to our inner world. It is my desire to create a space where others feel safe and truly seen while developing the language and skills necessary to navigate their current landscape.
My background is fairly eclectic, though I’ve been in one helping profession or another since 2009. Some former & genuinely meaningful career experiences led me to pursue the intersection of non-death loss and grief in graduate school. I’m passionate about grief work in general and feel there is often an undercurrent of sorrow in not just death, but various adjustments and life transitions that goes unacknowledged and invalidated by our culture of haste, productivity, and sometimes false positivity.
As with my work background, my therapeutic approach is integrative. I draw from various therapeutic modalities, interweaving an existential, trauma-informed and social justice lens throughout. I curate my approaches and interventions based on the uniqueness of each individual, though often draw from holistic, narrative, and somatic techniques as it feels comfortable. No matter the situation, I believe in the power of deep listening, mindfulness, and self-compassion.
Areas of focus: grief and loss, disability, adjustment, identity formation, alternative relationships, trauma and post traumatic stress, religious trauma, anxiety, stress, self esteem, spirituality, survivors of suicide, women’s issues.
Outside of the office you can mostly find me spending time with beloved family, friends, and animals, being outdoors, writing poetry or reading, and supporting local arts, theatre, music, and comedy.
